Nature Positive Network
An initiative by
The Fondazione per lo sviluppo sostenibile was established on the initiative of businesses, business associations and sustainability experts, who aim to foster the development of the green economy in Italy.
It promotes activities aimed at the ecological regeneration of local areas, the recognition and assessment of ecosystem services, the involvement of businesses in actions to protect and enhance natural capital, and the dissemination of models and practices of environmental innovation in agriculture.
Through workshops, seminars, research projects and collaborations with public and private bodies, the Foundation for Sustainable Development acts as a point of reference for anyone wishing to actively contribute to the transition towards an economy that is more respectful of the environment and natural resources.
The Autorità di bacino distrettuale del fiume Po is the public body responsible for planning the management of all the water that flows down from the Alps and the Apennines to the sea. Its area of jurisdiction comprises the catchment areas of the Po, Reno, Conca-Marecchia and Fissero-Tartaro-Canalbianco rivers. It covers eight regions and the Autonomous Province of Trento.
The Po River Basin Authority is responsible for coordinating and planning measures for soil conservation, the prevention of landslides and floods, water protection and water resource management, with particular attention to the protection and improvement of aquatic and terrestrial ecosystems dependent on water.
Recognising the link between biodiversity, water protection and management, and the socio-economic system, the Po River District Basin Authority is committed to developing strategies that emphasise the ecosystem functions performed by river systems and to increasing the involvement and awareness of all stakeholders regarding the value of natural capital and ecosystem services.
The NPN organises awareness-raising and outreach activities, carries out research and produces reports, collects and disseminates technical documentation and national and international success stories, and supports businesses in identifying concrete actions to restore natural systems and protect biodiversity.
The NPN will focus on the Po River District, an area covering 82,800 km², which still harbours outstanding natural features and represents a top priority for biodiversity conservation in Italy. The District is a major ecological corridor linking the Alps to the Apennines and on to the sea. Furthermore, it is also a crucial economic hub, contributing over 40 per cent of the national GDP and home to some of the country’s most significant companies. It is within this context – as complex as it is significant – that we intend to put the principles of the nature-positive economy into practice, demonstrating how improving the ecological quality of the territory is fundamental to ensuring economic resilience and competitiveness for businesses.
